We [bud?] our [Manitti?] Stocks
in Aug & Sept. var of Roses, that
ripen thier wood early & particularly
if scarce must be used whenever
ripe, even if they have to be budded
in June & July - We find [grapes?]
do best with [us?] budded late -
If the wood is not perfectly ripe
we take it out - We prefer to
work on the old wood -

We have had a most delight-
ful Spring. Apl was very dry &
warm. May thus far rather [ever?]
& cold - Morello Cherries & Apples
are just in flower now -
