To return to the buffalo – I have
heard much of the excellence of buffalo
rump but that in a bull is considered
very poor, in a fat cow some like it
well – I liked La bouille (chonts Chounee
(dont know if that is spelled right ^{pronounced bo yu}) – the rectum
that is – very well, but couldnt go the
aorta and some other veins ^{blood vessels} which they ate
raw – But I can just eat as much
buffalo meat at one meal as would
be considered sufficient for half a
dozen of you poor inhabitants of shells
& boxes –

You may expect me at home some
time from Oct 10^th to 30^th, but possibly
not till a little later – I am bound
to leave for St Pauls befor there is
danger of over 5 degrees of freezing, But
I will be in no danger – I will hire
a good voyageur for guide and have
a good time on the road.

I shall hardly have time to go
to Racine after I get home. Will
want to be in Washington as soon
as may be, and still must stay at
home some time, for Ill be homesick
