Sir

Understanding from the Friends of M^r W^m Brady that he is an applicant for the appointment of Secretary of State, and having been requesteed to state to you my opinion of Maj Brady- I can state that from a very partial acquaintance with him, I have no reason to beleive [sic] that he is other than a Gentleman, and from the representations of Men in whose statements I have Confidence I am induced to beleive [sic] that he is a Soldier a Gentleman and Capable of performing the duties of the office.
