having had a days illness in
Australia – but from Sing [Singapore] the
Capt of the Vessel in which he was wrote
to prepare Lady Neill for the very
worst – in deed we had hardly a
hope that he could out live the
Voyage – the disease heart com-
plaint – he was but 21 – his last
birth day – well you may imagine
the anxiety of such a letter but
more sad still two days after
came a letter from India
telling of the death of her 4th Son
Spencer – Such a dear good
youth – he had had fever & no
danger was apprehended
tho' the Dr was concerned that
he did not shake it off – and
he was taken some miles from
Rohat for change of air – but
he gradually got weaker – & fell
asleep never to waken – he was
my God son and I loved him
