Fingleton and Woodfull opened the Australian second innings at 3.20 p.m. and again
disaster overtook them after only a few minutes play. Fingleton was clean bowled trying
to turn a straight ball to leg,for the second time making a duck in this match. Ponsford,
who joined Woodful, was promptly caught off a bad stroke at point. Larwood was bowling his
off theory, which we will hope did not upset the Australian crowd as much as the leg
theory has. Bradman came in to take Ponsford's place and began brilliantly; he was in
splendid form and hit Larwood repeatedly to leg. The score at 4 o'clock was 28 for 2
wickets:

Fingleton b Larwood 0
Woodfull not out 12
Ponsford c Jardine b Larwood 3
Bradman not out 12

Voce replaced Larwood, who had to leave the field and Jardine was making many changes
of the bowling to try and unsettle Bradman, who was in his most agressive mood . The
score at 4.15 p.m. being 48 for 2, Bradman not out 26 and Woodfull not out 18.
