Friday, January 13th Announcement at begining of first broadcast at 7.45 a.m. We are now going to broadcast a description of the third Test Match between England and Australia at Adelaide, through the courtesy of the manufacturers of Gillette razoes and blades. The world-wide success of Gillette has been due chiefly to its achievement in the treatment of steel, both in tempering and in fine edging. Nearly every important operation emplyed in the mading of a Gillette blade is the result of study and experiment on the part of Gillette engineers. Their latest accoplishments are embodied in the new slotted blade; its features are a more durable steel and a sharper edge than every achieved heretofore. If you have not tried the new slotted Gillette blade, buy a packet today and prove to yourself that it gives a keener shave and lasts longer than any blade you have previously tried. Makde sure you ask for the slotted Gillette blades which fit all types of Gillette razors. The break in the weather at Adelaide was evidently not too serious, as it was fine and cool when the game began this morning. Jardine's luck at last changed, as he this time won the toss He inspected the wicket, which appeared to be good and England therefore have the advantage taking first knock. Pataudi and Bowen were omitted from the English team, Verity and Payntere taking their places. Brown is twelfth man. The ground was packed and the wity is crowded with visitors, the accommodation being very much overtaxed. Jardine opened the English innings with Sutcliffe, but in the 4th over he was bowled in trying a leg glance. Hammond went in first wicket down but after 20 minutes play he was brilliantly caught at the wicket by Oldfield and the Sutcliffe was also caught from a magnificent catch at mod on by Well, who dived to catch the ball and just managed to hold it. This disastrous opening was due to really superlative bowling. Ames who was the next in was cleaned bowled when playing back. The score at lunch was 37 for 4 wickets, a record low score, Leyland being not out 12, and Wyatt 3.

After lunch O'Reilly and wall carried on the bowling. Runs came slowly but gradually the rate of scoring quickened, the partnership reaching 50 in 55 minutes. Wyatt was somewhat severe on Grimmett - he hit this bowler for two sixes to square leg. The 100 went up after 141 minutes play. Leyland, hitting hard, reached 50 in 103 minutes batting, which included 9 fours. Leyland has played an admirable innings, being very sold in defence, yet hitting anything approaching a bad ball very hard. Wyatt took another six off Wall and completed his 50 in 102 minutes. This stand of Wyatt and Leyland altered the complexion of the game. Their succes has been due to steady and resolute batting, sound defence and hard hitting when the opportunity occurs. Tea was taken with the score at 154 for 4. The scores :- Sutcliffe c Wall b O'Reilly 9 Jardine b Wall 3 Hammond c Oldfield b Wall 2

When play started the wicket was distinctly fiery but after lunch it was playing very much easier. After the tea interval Wyatt and Leyland continued to defy the Australian attack and at 4.30 the score was 169 for 4 - Leyland 74 and Wyatt 69. The English team, particularly Leyland and Wyatt, are to be congratulated on the way they have regained control of the game. Wall and O'Reilly have up to the moment borne the brunt of the bowling, but after their initial successes before lunch they have not reached the same high standard. Since tea the game has developed into a great struggle and the crowd have been enthralled watching the dual.
