a young lady from the East who had come here to graduate.

Please tell Papa not to be late in sending my money this month as I borrowed of Miss Ames and bought my shoes and the few other little things I absolutely needed besides my books. I did not do it because I had to but she had to go down and did not know anything about San Jose and was anxious to loan me the money in order to have me go. She seems quite young to be a member of the faculty here.

A very important and interesting foot ball game occurred yesterday afternoon. It was between the 'Olympaids of San Francisco and our boys. The Olympaids have quite a reputation on the coast and the State University boys' were not able to win a point against them. The game yesterday was won by them with the score six to ten and if the time had only been called half a minute sooner Stanford would have been ahead and even now we feel jubilant. The dining room was so noisy last night you could not hear your voice if you spoke and some of the girls were so excited they could not eat.

We are going to celebrate George Washington's birthday with a reception in costume and so I shall have to rack my brains for a gown and will tell you all about it in my next The invitations are written in old
