Department of the Interior, Washington D.C. Aug 19. 1865

Sir: In reply to your letter of the 8th instant, addressed to the President of the United States and by him referred to this Department, & have to inform you that the President, in accordance with your recommendation, has appointed Mr Theaker Commissioner of Patents and that he has assumed the duties of that Office.
