Dear James Balto 4 day night

It was not in our person to call on thee again, tho' our intention to do so, without delaying our return to Balto, till too late for Col G. to go to N.Y. tonight.

I shall go up the Road a short distance to day, & may not return till 7th day afternoon, or possibly 2d day - i.e. on 7th day night I mean, but too late to go home till 2nd day.

If thee can give me a seat up on 2nd day it will oblige me, for I do not want the rought stageride if I can possible avoid it.

If I can get back on 7th morning or noon, I will go up on 7th day, tho' that is doubtful, as I do not intend to ride in the night unless unavoidable.

If thee has a chance, send this to mother, as I have not time to write
