July 6th.
1,089 meeting.

The 1,089th meeting of The Association was held at Homestone.
After lunch the meeting was called to order with Emelene Hill presiding.
The minutes were read, and it was suggested we include Fanny Iddings
poem referred to in the minutes, on records.

The Treasurer reported a balance of $27.00

The next three places of meeting are, with Mrs. Hough, The
Highlands and Plainfield.

The Sentiment of the Hostess, from the 1946 translation of the
Bible, her favorite verses beginning, "If I speak with the tounges of
men and of Angels. The same sentiment in more modern phrases. She
asked the botanical name for "Goose-neck." "Sysamecia" Coz. Edith
Green thought, Elizabeth thought that something else.

Anna Bussler, on the Robins, she had meant to read it in the
Spring, but we love the Robin anytime.

Elsie Stabler "Our Uncle Sam", how our nation came to be called
Uncle Sam.

Alice Farquhar asked about the poplar trees being encrusted with
a scale. It is the trees defence against aphis. Spray if you can.

Edith Green said we do not get up in time to see the morning
star.

Rose Hutton said she and Grace Thomas thought of bringing
some of their art work, but decided against it. She was urged to so do
so next meeting.

Margaret Jones read from David Grayson on the sense of "Smell"
Each season brings "the most deliciousodor". July 6 was the grape
blossom. He would like a "Smellacle" developed, as his sense of smell
seems to be declining. To her question about madonna lillies she was
told they should be lifted and replanted right away, every few years.

Rebecca Small read a very funny story on gardening and flower
arrangements.

Mariana Miller read from a paper Mrs. Winn had loaned her. It
was written by Mr..Thomas Anderson, Sr. and was a history of the settle-
of the County, written September 6th, 1876 when Montgomery became a
separate County. She also read some of the old Maryland land grant
names.

Grace Thomas had nothing to read, and could not exhibit her
art as it was still wet.

Isabel gave an invitation to all of us for a Shower Tea she
is having at Alloway for Joy Wardward on the 15th.

Rose Gilpin told of an experience she had had in Balto.Co while
visiting there. She met another visitor from California who is a convinced
Friend.

Helen Hallowell gave notice for Elza, about the Fancy Table
at The Hospital Supper. Coz. Helen will collect things around the
15th. if anyone would like her to, and will call her. She also read a
letter from Martha Dean.

Ethel Thomas an Irish story.

Bertha Crum.read a story about "C A R E " and "U N E S C O"
and their work in suppling new books to foreigh Universities and
other institutions. She asked what to do for "Spit bug" on her phlox,
and was advised to spray with black leaf 40.
