814th Meeting.

Mount Welcome

The eight hundred fourteenth meeting of the Mutual Improvement Association of Sandy Spring was held at the home of Sallie Adams, Mount Welcome, Howard County, Twelfth Month, Fourth.

A delicious luncheon was served after which the meeting was called to order by Sarah T. Adams as Elizabeth C. Davis asked to be excused.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. There were no minutes of a previous meeting at this place.

Mary Nichols reported for the Education Committee. The subject of the County Federation Scholarship was discussed at length-the final decision being that a majority of the members present favored giving a scholarship-not loaning the money. The sentiment was against having Kindergartens established in our community.

Home Economics Committee had no report.

Mary Tilton, Social Service Chairman, gave a resume of the work done by the Social Director, Miss Davies, during the past month. She also asked that the Association donate five Christmas stockings suitable for boys of four years of age.

Martha Farquhar said she would give one, Mary Tilton, two, Estelle T. Moore, one, and Mary Gilpin, one.

The Treasurer reported $19.75 on hand after paying $2.00 for the Quinquennial Fund and $6.00 for typing the minutes. It was moved, duly seconded and carried, that each of the twenty eight members pay $1.25 dues for 1925.

Margaret Jones told the Brookeville Branch of the Needlework Guild of America had sent 166 garments to the Social Service League this year.

Resolution Committee- no report.

A motion to have the minutes typed at the end of each year was made by Elizabeth Stabler-the details to be left with the Secretary.

It was decided to have Volume 11 of the Minutes put in the vault of Sandy Spring Bank.

The name of Fanny Pierce Iddings was put on the waiting list.

No reports from either County or State Federations.

Next meeting to be with India Downey at Charley Forest on New Year's Day.

Sentiment of Hostess, Sallie Adams, was read from a book published in 1860-"Girls dress so badly and their behavior demoralizes the young men. If they don't learn to have better manners things will go to ruin."
