Oct 2^nd 1869

The Club met by special invitation at
Jos T. Moore's. All the members were present
except our hon Sec. whose more punctual attendance
is desired especially by those on whom his duties
fall. There were two or three young gentleman of the
neighborhood in attendance. P. T. Stabler was appointed
foreman & R. B. Farquhar Sec Pro tem. As there were
no minutes to read we started on a tour of investigation
of our host's premises. The first thing that attracted
our attention was a potato cellar under the carriage
house there was a large pile of rather small potatoes it
there were numerous surmises as to the number of
Bushels. we were informed that measured by the cart
load there were 900 bus. The carriage house & stable
were roomy & very complete. The corn house & granary
were convenient tho not very useful at present
We saw a team plowing in one corner of a 20 acre field
most of which was plowed ready for wheat, we saw six
very good hogs, that were very much better than you would
expect them to be in the very uncomfortable quarters they
occupied. The stable was next visited & things
found to be in good order. Some of us were much
surprised by our host telling us that his five mules
only consumed 35 Bbls Corn from Dec 27^th 1868
to Sep 1^st 1869 had nothing else but long food
we would like to know the recipt for feeding
corn so economically. The Barn was filled with
hay. A very dense box hedge on one side of
the garden was said to be 99 years old.
