A large auditorium has been built in connection with the new
high school, this auditorium with its better facilities has proven
such a competitor to the Lyceum that the use of the old building
has been almost entirely abandoned never the less the spirit of
the Lyceum lives on. The center of attraction now, is the high
school auditorium. The Lyceum building has been bought by the
Friend's Society and is now kept as a monument to the good work it
has performed, and as the constant reminder to the people of the spirit
of the Lyceum, so that they may never forget Science, free speech,
progress, and their forefathers.

The Community has three institutions. The Mutual Fire Insurance
Company of the Montgomery County, The Sandy Spring Bank, and The
Hospital.

The Fire Insurance Company was organized by the community to
provide adequate fire insurance for the community, and the county.
It has been so succesful that it has extended beyond the county,
and at the present time has a very large business.

The Savings Bank has also been highly sucessful. In 1923 it
payed 7% on its accounts. Nearly every one in the community uses the
the bank and former members of the community that have moved away,
keep an account in the bank. They have depositers in every state
of the union, and in three foreign countries.

The community realized that it needed the service that these
instituions render, so it organized, and got the service.
