Be it ordained by the City Council of Greenville, assembled,
and it is hereby ordained by the authority of the same,
That on and after the first day of April, 1888, no hogs
shall be allowed in the City limits, within one mile of
the Cour House.

eight hundred and eighty-eight.

An Ordinance Establishing a Board of Health.

Section 1. The Board of Health of the City of Greenville
shall consist of one physician, who shall be chairman,
and six citizens, one to live in each ward of said City,
and all of whom shall be elected by the City Council,
and shall hold their office for the term of two years from
the date of their election.

Sec. 2 The power and authority of said Board of Health
shall be construed to include the prevention of the sale,
or offering for sale, or improper articles, or the removal
of any matter of thing in or upon the public streets or
places which shall be in their opinion detrimental to
the public health and generally the abating of all
nuisances injurious to the public health.

Sec. 3. The said Board of Health shall have full power
and authority to require the owner or occupant of any
lot or building in the City to remove or remedy anything
on said lot or building which in the opinion of the Board
may endanger the public health, and on failure of the
owner or occupant to remove or remedy the same the
Board shall have the same done at the expense of said
owner or occupant, the said amount to be recovered in
any court of competent jurisdiction.
