Ontario and Canada. If the lions share went to Toronto the
other universities must not be left to starve.

Class and other fees were about as high already as the student
body could bear. But in the story of Queen's, there was, down
to date, always a rift in the cloud. Queen's had a twofold
interest in the General Hospital; first, as a public institution
for the relief of the injured and the sick; and secondly,
as an aid to the Medical Faculty in supplying clincial
material for student study. Chancellor Douglas gave $100,000
to help in remodelling and extending the Hospital buildings,
and the late Senator Richardson left another $100,000.00
for fighting the scourge of Tuberculosis. Mr James A Minnes,
one of the merchants of Kingston, and a man of fine public
spirit, had already secured, by private subscription,
well nigh another $100,000.00 for hospital equipment,
and the County of Frontenac made a grant of $75,000.00
for the same purposes. And a stadium (of which more
anon); an important annex to athletic interests, was already
looming on the horizon.

The health of the Secretary-Treasurer, Mr GH Chown,
was giving Trustees and Staff some concern. He had held
office for a good many years and knew the ins and outs
of the whole establishment as, probably, no one else did.
It was his own Alma Mater, and he loved his work. It
was the earnest hope of the Board that Mr Chown would
