The Senatus took up the subject of
Degrees. The candidates for the degree
of Bachelor of Arts, viz. Messrs Kenneth
McLennan, James McLennan, Daniel
Heenan and William Johnson, were
then called in, and examined [underline] viva voce [/underline] by
the Senatus, for several hours, in Classics,
Mathematics and Natural Philosophy, and
Logic; and the written exercises performed
by them on Wednesday and today
were also produced and examined; and the
Senatus, taking a view of their whole appearances
and exercises, were very highly
satisfied therewith, and unanimously
resolved that the degree of Bachelor in Arts
be conferred upon them. Whereupon, the
Principal, after solemn prayer, annoounced
to the above candidates that the said degree
was now conferred on them respectively;
and then suitably addressed them as to
their duties and conduct. The Rev. H. Urquhart
then closed the proceedings with prayer. The
Members of Senatus present affixed their signatures
to the Diplomas.
George Romanes
Secretary.
