Brown respecting Taxes - Referred to the Court of
Revision.

Ald: Thompson from the Committee on Finance
and Accounts brought up a Report (Number 374
Book E) which was read and adopted.

The Chairman from the Committee on Streets &c
brought up a Report (Number 375 Book E) which
was read and adopted.

The Chairman from the Committee on Fire
Water and Gas brought up a Report (Number 376
Book E) which was read and adopted.

Applications from H Youlden was read applying
for the appointment of Chief Engineer of the Fire
Department in place of the late Chief who resigned.

An application from Wm Newan was read
tendering the services of David Hall and himself
to organize and work efficiently a Fire Department
that will do the necessary duty for the City keeping Devlin
still on his post

On motion of Ald. Gildersleeve seconded by Ald. Clements
Ordered, That the thanks of this Council are due and
hereby tendered to the Chief of Fire Brigade M. Bateson and
the other members of the Brigade for their most efficient
services during the lengthened period of service - and hereby
desire to express the great regret which the Council feels
in being obliged to accept their resignation

On motion of Ald: Carson seconded by Ald. Dunn
Ordered, That H. Youlden be appointed Chief
Engineer of the Fire Brigade.

Ald. Gildersleeve introduced "A By [Law] to adopt the
award of the Arbitrators between the Corporation of the City of
Kingston and John Maloney in the matter of the extension
of Picard street from Montreal to Rideau streets in the City of
Kingston" which was read a first time

The 30th Rule was suspended and the Council
went into Committee of the whole on the second reading
Ald. James Wilson in the chair
The Council resumed
The Committee rose and the Chairman reported the
second reading of the By Law clause by clause. The
Report was received
The By Law was read a third time and passed.

On motion of Ald: McDermott seconded by Ald: Little
Ordered, That the request of Mr. Carrington for a Lamp
be referred to the Committee on Fire Water and Gas to report
On
