A Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the City of
Kingston was held this day. Present

His Worship the Mayor
Aldermen
Adams, Bermingham, Carson, Clements, Drennan,
Gildersleeve, Harty, Hobart, Irwin, Little,
McDermott, OBrien, Redden, Robinson, Shannon,
Thompson, J Wilson, W Wilson

The Clerk read the minutes of the last meeting.

A Communication from Robert McLean Secretary Underwriters
was read Re Insurance

On motion of Ald Clements seconded by Ald Hobart
Whereas the premium Income of Insurance Companies
is by law liable to Municipal assessment.

And whereas differences have arisen as to whether
the assessment should be based on the net Income after
deducting losses and expenses or on the gross income.

Resolved, That this Council directs that such
assessment be based on the net income that is to say after
deducting the local losses and expenses of the year determining
the assessment.

This resolution to take eeffect on the City being
restored to Class C

A Communication from Miss Ann E Conlon
was read re payment for boulevard &c. Referred to
the Committee on Streets &c

Sundry petitions respecting taxes were submitted
and referred to the Court of Revision

Ald Robinson brought up the petition of J Hazlett
and others asking for a lamp in the corner of Brock
and Frontenac Street. Referred to the Committee on
Fire, Water and Gas

Ald Gildersleeve brought up the petition of
William Power asking for an extension of lease for
construction of a Dry Dock at the foot of Union Street
for three years from this date.

Ald Gildersleeve moves seconded by Ald Harty
That the prayer of the petition be granted

In amendment
Ald Shannon moves seconded by Ald Adams
That the petition of William Power be referred
to the streets committee which being put was lost and
the original motion was carried

Ald Bermingham from the Committee on Finance
and accounts brought up a Report (Number 368 Book E)
which was read and adopted. Ald Dunn here entered.
