A Meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the City of Kingston
was held this day. Present

His Worship the Mayor

Aldermen

Allen, John Carson, R.J. Carson, Clements, Craig
Creeggan, Downing, Dupuis, C.F. Gildersleeve
Law, McGuire, McIntyre, Quigley, Redden, Smythe
Wilson

The Clerk read the minutes of the last meeting

A Communication from Edward Moore was read respecting
Taxes

On motion of Ald: Smythe seconded by Ald: R.J. Carson
Ordered, that the Communication of Edward Moore be
referred to the Court of Revision

The Clerk submitted a Special Summons served on
him from the First Division Court, County of Frontenac in Re
Henry Hitchens vs the Corporation of the City of Kingston

On motion of Ald: R.J. Carson seconded by Ald: Smythe
Ordered, that the communication of H. Hitchens be
referred to the City Solicitor to report.

Ald: Smythe brought up the petition of T. Hewitt praying
for a reduction of frontage

On motion of Ald: Smythe seconded by Ald: McIntyre
Ordered, that the petition of T. Hewitt be referred
to the Committee on Streets to report.

Ald: C.J. Gildersleeve brought up the petition of
James Minnes Esquire and 13 others shareholders of the
proposed "Royal Knitting Company" praying for exemption
from Taxes on real and personal property &c

On motion of Ald: C.F. GIldersleeve seconded by Ald: Allen
Ordered, that the petition of the Royal Knitting
Company be referred to the Finance Committee to report
stating in such report their opinion in regard to the
exemption of the Capital Stock

Ald: Clements brought up the petition of A.
Gunn and 19 others subscribers to the proposed "Kingston
Car Works Company" praying for exemption from Taxation
on real and personal property &c for ten years

On motion of Ald: Clements seconded by Ald: Allen
Ordered, that the petition of the Kingston Car
Works be referred to the Finance Committee to report to a
special meeting of the Council of this Corporation to be called
by the Mayor if necessary.

Ald: Redden brought up the petition of the Brock street
Church praying for a remission of rent on the occasion of
their sservice on the 16th December 1881

On motion of Ald: Redden seconded by Ald: Carson
Ordered
