Ordered, That the Report of the Committee on Finance
and Accounts be received and adopted.

The Chairman from the Select Committee on back
taxes &c brought up a Report (Number 751 Book D No 2)

On motion of Ald Snook seconded by Ald McIntyre
Ordered, That the Report of the Committee on Officers
and Salaries and back taxes be received and adopted.

The Mayor here left the Chair.

Ald McKelvey took the same.

On motion of Ald McRossie seconded by Ald Allen
Ordered, That the thanks of the Council are hereby
tendered to Mayor Gildersleeve for his uniform courtesy and
impartial conduct in the Chair as well as for the energetic
and efficient discharage of his other duties as Mayor during
the past year. Carried unanimously

The Mayor resumed the Chair

Ald McGuire brought up the petition of WJ Jones respecting
back taxes.

On motion of Ald Pense seconced by Ald Redden
Ordered, That the petition of GW Jones be referred to the
Committee on back taxes to act and that the report of the
Committee be reconsidered in so far as this motion affects it.

On motion of Ald McCammon seconded by Ald Gaskin
Ordered, That the sum of one hundred dollars be
placed to the credit of the Fire Brigade for their benevolent
fund as soon as they have complied with the conditions
of the By Law in reference to the same.

Ald McIntyre moves seconded by Ald Snook
That the resolution passed at the last meeting
of this Council appointing a AC Chadwick, City Commissioner
and Collector of the Dog Tax be reconsidered which being
put was lost

On motion of Ald McIntyre seconded by Ald Snook
Ordered, That the City Solicitor be requested to
deliver his opinion as to whether or not the appointment
of AC Chadwick as City Commissioner and Collector of Dog
Tax is legal.

On motion of Ald McDermott seconded by Ald Fee
Ordered, That in the matter of Alexander
Stewart Tavern Keeper and of William Rees and Timothy
Palmer Tavern Keepers that such sums be granted to them
not exceeding the amounts received by or accruing to the CIty
from them during the present year as the Mayor shall direct.

Ald Allen moves seconded by Ald Snook
That the one percent per month on last years taxes
be not collected until first of February next and any already
collected
