Ald McKelvey brought up the petition of George
A Kirkpatrick and 900 others with reference to the
By Law relating to Butchers which recently came into
operation in the City and suggesting the desirability of
petitioning the Legislative Assembly of Ontario to enable
Municipalities to enact a fee from Butchers for selling in
localities beyond the Market proper

On motion of Ald McKelvey seconded by Ald Carson
Ordered that the petition of G A Kirkpatrick
and others be referred to a Special Committee to consist
of the following members: His Worship the Mayor,
Aldermen Pense, Irving, Snook, Anglin, Fee and the
mover - said Committee to Communicate with the Ontario
Government with a view to having an act passed
allowing Municipalities to charge Butchers a License
and if they deem it advisable, two or more of the
Committee shall proceed to Toronto at their own expense
to obtain the views of the Government regarding the matter.

Ald McKelvey brought up the petition of John
McMillan respecting Taxes

Other petitions respecting Taxes were here
submitted

On motion of Ald McKelvey seconded by Ald Gaskin
Ordered, that the petition of John McMillan
and other petitions respecting Taxes be referred to the
Court of Revision

Ald McKelvey brought up the petition of John
McMillan praying exemption from local taxation
on the property known as Merlins Brewery & Distillery
as it is his intention to put up a high grade flour
Mill and Starch factory

On motion of Ald McKelvey seconded by Ald Mooer
Ordered that the petition of John McMillan be
referred to the Finance Committee to report.

Ald McGuire brought up the petition of Patrick
Fallon praying the Council to purchase his broken stones
at a fair price

On motion of Ald McGuire seconded by Ald McCammon
Ordered that the petition of Patrick Fallon be
referred to the committee on Streets

Ald McKelvey from the Committe on Finance
and Accounts brought up a Report (Number 673
Book D Number 2) which was read and adopted

The Chairman from the Committee on Streets and
Improvments brought up a Report (Number 674
Book D Number 2) which was read and adopted.

Ald McKelvey introduced a By Law to amend
the By Law entitled "A By Law to amend the By Law
passed on the seventh day of September 1840 relating to
theatres
