economical administration of the affairs of the City
and for such purpose to place itself in communication
with the different standing committees of the council
with the Police Comissioners and the School Board

On motion of Ald Snook seconded by Ald Redden
Ordered that Aldermen Gaskin, McIntyre
Fee, McGuire and the mover be a Committee on
officers and salaries and back taxes with power to
examine books and documents and report in haste
as expedient - yeas - 18 nays - 2

On motion of Ald Mooers seconded by Ald Irving
Ordered that Alderman McKelvey be the
Director of the Kingston and Pembroke Railway
Company on behalf of the City during the ensuing
year

Ald Carson moves seconded by Ald McKelvey
That the Clerk advertise in both Daily Papers
two insertions for applications up to Monday next, noon
to fill the office of assessors and that they be appointed at
a future meeting of the Council and that the vote be
taken by ballot and that the applications be in the hand
[regarding] of the applicants.

In Amendment
Ald Gaskin moves seconded by Ald Anglin
That the vote for assessors be an open vote which
being put was carried ^yeas 10 nays 9 and the original motion being put
was carried as amended

On motion the Council adjourned

The Clerk read the minutes of the two last meetings

A communication from John Ashley was read, praying
remuneration for services rendered for cleaning and
attending
