Monday 8 O'Clock P.M.
Kingston November 16th 1896

A meeting of the Council of the Corporation of the City of Kingston was held this
day. Present
His Worship the Mayor
Aldermen
Allen, Behan, Carson, Curtis, Donnelly, Drennan, Hewton,
Livingston, Martin, Minnes, Newlands, Redden, Richardson,
Robinson, Ryan, Skinner, Stewart, Strainge, Tait, Walkem

The Clerk read the minutes of the two last meetings.

Communication summarized by Clerk were read and referred as follows:

From F.C. Ireland fees received to date from No 1 Market. Referred to the
Committee on Finance.

From William P. Parker and others re taxes. Referred to the Court of
Revision.

From George Thompson stating taxes received to date. Referred to the Committee
on Finance.

A communication from the Chairman and Secretary at a Public meeting
of the 14th November instant re proposed change of coal oil limits. Fyled.

Petitions were presented and referred as follows:
From George Robertson & Son by Alderman Stewart asking for permission to erect a
building on lots 590 & 591 Frontenac Street for the storage of coal oil. Referred to the
Committee on Fire, Water and Light.

From John Fisher by Alderman Martin for permission to remove a frame building on
University Avenue to a lot on Johnson or Division Street. Referred to the Board of
Works.

From H. Skinner & Co and R.J. Carson by Alderman Ryan for the privilege of erecting
a building on vacant lot corner of Queen and Clergy Streets for storage & coal oil.
Referred to the Committee on Fire, Water and Light.

From William Gilmour by Alderman Richardson re state of Collingwood Street
and requesting it be improved.
On motion of Alderman Richardson seconded by Alderman Hewton
Ordered That the Finance Committee be instructed to provide funds
to grade Collingwood Street so as to permit ordinary traffic as per William Gilmour's
petition.

Alderman Behan from the Committee on Finance and Accounts brought up
Report (Number 92 Book H) which was read.
On motion of Alderman Behan seconded by Alderman Curtis
Ordered That the report of the Committee on Finance and Accounts
be received and adopted provided the City Solicitor agrees the ballot is according
to law.

The Chairman from the Board of Works brought up Report (Number
93 Book H) which was read.
Alderman Carson moves seconded by Alderman Behan
That the report of the Board of Works be received and adopted.
In amendment
Alderman Ryan moves seconded by Alderman Curtis
That the agreement be laid over until a special meeting is
called for next Monday evening to consider the matter which being put was
carried and the report was adopted as amended.
