A Special meeting of the Council of the Council of the Corporation of the City of Kingston was
held this day. Present

His Worship the Mayor

Aldermen

Allen, Bell, Carson, Donnelly, Elliott, Johns, Kent,
Livingston, Minnes, Mooers, McKelvey, Richardson, C. Robinson,
W. Robinson, Ryan, Stewart, Tait, Taylor, Toye, Walkem,
Wright.

Communications summarized were read and referred as follows: -

From Robert Carr Harris objecting to assessment on the property known
as the Murdock Farm - Referred to the Court of Revision.

From George Thompson Collector giving statement of Taxes collected
to date - Referred to the Committee on Finance &c.

From D.H. Dowsley asking permission to have some trees removed
on Johnston St - Referred to Board of Works and City Engineer.

From Noel Kent objecting to being assessed for Yacht as he disposed
of it in June 1896 - Referred to the Court of Revision.

From Jas [James] Garrington re Dog tax - Referred to the Court of Revision.

From M.F. Hughes appealing against the assessment on lot No 369
as being too high - Referred to the Court of Revision.

From Smythe & Lyon on behalf of Elisha F. Chapman claiming
for injuries received through a defective plank - Referred to the Board of Works.

From J. Gilbert calling attention to the case of James Crawford
an employee of the Water Works Dept - Referred to the Committee on Water Works.

From Geo [George] Y. Chown asking that a crossing be put down at once on
Barrie Street and also that the City continue the grading along the Dairy School
grounds on Barrie Street - Referred to the Board of Works.

From Wm [William] Mundell applying for the position of City Clerk

From Jno [John] Reilly Recording Secy of the Knights of Labor asking that
Ex Mayor Drennan be appointed to the position of City Clerk.

From W.M. Drennan applying for the position of City Clerk.

From Jas [James] B. McLeod objecting to taxes on Drugs purchased from
Hobart Estate - Referred to the Court of Revision.

From Jas [James] Galloway applying for the position of City Clerk.

From Clerk and persons appointed to sum up the votes for and against
the By Law entitled A By Law to raise by way of Loan on the Credit of the Debentures
of the Municipality of the City of Kingston the sum of $25,000 and to grant the
same in aid of the erection of a Grain Elevator in said City attended at the office
of the office of the Clerk and summed up the votes as follows: -

For the By Law 920 votes
Against the By Law 139 votes
Majority for the By Law 781 - Referred to the Committee on
Finance &c.

From R. Bryant objecting to be assessed for property he did not own
- Referred to the Court of Revision.

From F.C. Ireland City Treasurer giving statement of Market
tolls received to date June 21st Number 1 Market
