Owing to the death of M. Flanagan City Clerk the regular business of
the Council was suspended and the following resolution passed.

On motion of Ald Livingston seconded by Ald Ryan
Resolved: That this Council has learned with feelings of profound sadness the
intelligence of the death of our revered City Clerk, Michael Flanagan, Esquire.

For upwards of fifty years he has served this Municipality with a fidelity
and zeal which are beyond praise while his urbanity of manner and unfailing courtesy
have lightened the dull routine of daily business and rendered official intercourse with
him a pleasure.

Naturally an observant man, his long time tenure of the chief Municipal Office and
his close contract with public affairs had informed a singularly retentive memory with a rich
store of the most interesting incidents of our local history and often have those of this later
generation been instructed and delighted to hear him call up in apt and picturesque language
the actors and doings of an earlier day.

Never will the charm of his cheerful society be forgotten by those of his fellow
citizens who enjoyed the privilege of intimate friendship with him. His clear Spirit was
never darkened by malace or envy or any uncharitableness while to a nature of such
singular sweetness and gentleness there was joined a manly fortitude which endured
for years without complaint or repining the slow but inevitable approaches of a
fatal disease.

To his sorrowing Widow and family in their core berevement we tender our
sincerest Sympathy and trust that they will be sustained and comforted
by the divine consolations of Religion and when time shall have somewhat assuages
their grief they may reflect with continued satisfaction that life which has just
gone out has merited and received the cordial and spontaneous "Well done" of every
citizen.

And that, a copy of this resolution be forwarded to his family.

On motion of Ald Walkem seconded by Ald Elliott
Ordered That the members of this Council together with the officials of
this Corporation attend the funeral of the late Michael Flanagan and that a
Committee of the mover and the seconder with Ald Livingston, Richardson and Ryan
be a committee to make all proper arrangements connected with the funeral.

On Motion the Council adjourned

W.S. Gordon
