Sir,

I have the honor to forward to you
certain depositions taken by M^r Dutton J.P.
at a magisterial enquiry into the cause of the
death of two aboriginal natives found dead on
M^r James Steeles [sic] Station of Fairfield and
which investigation appears to have been held
on the complaint of M^r Steele who charges Lieut^t
Morehead of the Native Police with the murder
of the said Aboriginals —

The evidence fails entirely in my opinion
to substantiate a charge of murder against
Lieut^t Morehead but I have deemed it to be
my duty to forward the depositions to you
for your preusal —

I have the honor to request that the
documents may be returned for the purpose
of being filed in this Office in the usual
manner —
