This is the 1st collected edition on which the poet based his claim to fame, + the only ed. published during the 15th C. the most important of all Petrarch's Latin works in this volume is his collection of Epistles formed by himself in his lifetime.

The author's celebrated book on how to conduct one's life in the face of good + ill fortune. This longest of Petrarch's prose works is divided into two extended dialogues between ellegorical commentators, the 1st being Reason + Joy, the 2nd between Reason + Sorrow, c the message emerging that humans should seek not prosperity + plenty, but sufficiency. The test is much more lively + delightful, than most tracts on morality, as the author provides instruction under not only the expected chapters about death + riches, but also under such headings as pleasant smells, elephants + camels, the clearness of the air, + coming out of prision. The book also has considerable medical interest c dialogues in the 2nd part dealing c sickness, gout, epidermal infections, the plague, toothache, leg pains, blindness, stomach disorders, madness + other maladies.
