Introit: Requriem + Verse: Te decat hymnus from the
Mass fo the Dead.
In its present form the liturgy of the Mass
begins with the Introit; originally this was an entire
psalm with its antiphon, chanted during the entrance
of the priest, but later was shortened to only a single
verse of the psalm with an antiphone.
A special Mass, so called from the 1st word of its
Introit which begins Requiem aeternnam dona eis
Domine ("Grant them eternal rest, O Lord") In the
Requiem Mass the Gloria + Credo are omitted, + the chant
Dies uae, dies illa ("Day of wrath, O dreadful day") is
inserted after the tract.
Sion - lit., a hill in Jerusalem on which stood the royal palace
fig., the Church, esp. the Church Militant, the faithful.
In general, Sion, is the Church on earth; Jerusalem, the Church
in heaven.
