Dear Sir
I take the liberty of asking you to present to the Gentlemen Trustees, the following petition.
I believe this year completes the Twenty one years, since I commenced making out the Quarterly Accounts for Mount Auburn - by the request of the late Judge Story, I made out the first Account. I believe have never missed one during the above period.
For several years I performed the duty without any compensation. I therefore now ask (provided it is perfectly agreeable) of the Trustees to allow me to have a lot in the Grounds of Mount Auburn assigned me for future use -
I am very Respectfully Yours Samuel Newell

Dear Sir
In regard to my request to the President and Trustees of Mount Auburn for a Lot. I presume from what you said, you thought it was made in the form of a legal right. Allow me to say that was not the case, but on the other hands they have always paid me the small amount I ask,d for with the utmost freedom, for which I am perfectly satisfied, and if my life is spared an other twenty years I hope to continue to be reminded every three months of the uncertainty of life by looking over the books with Mr Haws.
I will therefore say provides the Gentlemen think proper to grant me a Lot I shall shall always remember it with much gratitude. I will however mention at this time, that I believe this last April ended the twenty first year of my making out the accounts, which I have good reason to suppose have been correct and to the satisfaction of all.
A few of the first years say about Seven, I received no compensation & a part of that time it was attended with a

a vast deal of trouble owing to the careless manner of the Superintendent in making out the charges from the bills, which were all of them examined by me. A term of five years under Mr Haws management, in not so much labor as one was formerly.
I am Respectfully Yours Samuel Newell
