Perkins, Thomas H.

Colonel Thomas Handasyd Perkins (December 15, 1764 – January 11, 1854), was a wealthy Boston merchant and an archetypical Boston Brahmin. His philanthropic contributions include Perkins School for the Blind, renamed in his honor; the Boston Museum of Fine Arts; McLean Hospital; along with having a hand in founding the Massachusetts General Hospital. A subscriber to the [[Joseph Story Statue|Story Statue]]. He is buried on [[Lot 108]] with the rest of his family. In 1843, he commissioned [[Greenough, Horatio|Horatio Greenough]] to sculpt the Newfoundland dog monument that now sits atop the Perkins family tomb. Father of [[Perkins, Thomas H., Jr.|Thomas H.
