will take so long to get a certificate from
Capt. Holcomb a Lieut John W Chace
you having been acquainted with Laird
previous to his enlisting and being in the
service at the time of his death, can more
readily give me the required proof than
any other commissioned officer. I wish
you to make the affidavit in your
own hand writing make oath to it
before a Justice of Peace & return it
to me as soon as may be and greatly
me in behalf of the widow.
