And I'll love the best thou child of air.
I love thee dewy gem, for thou counsel to me
With an eye of faith and a soul of melody.
Oh had I faith like thine, sweet flower
I'd not linger long, where clouds and tempest lower,
On the wings of faith with Hope I'd rise
And seek the spirit's home in the sunny skies
I'd not tarry here in earthly bowers
But seek with delight Heavens unfolding flowers.
For you must fade bright flower and to dust return
And Nature shall hang her dew drops over thy morn
So I must fade and yield my breath
To the "grim monster" "cruel death."
Peacefully and gently death waits upon thee.
Oh may he be thus welcome, when he calls for me.

Wayside Flowers July 7th/48
The long velvet spike of the mullian stalk
Springs xxxxx the wayside to cheer my lovely walk
Adorned with blossoms sweet of yellow hue
And glittering bright with morning dew.
Like the "star of hope" that floweret seems
Like a fairy form from the land of dreams.

"Happiness is a wayside flower growing along the
highways of usefulness". M.F. Tupper June 15th/51
And what is missing? July 2nd/1851
Oh Life, mysterious, painful Life.

"Have I not striven and failed" _______________ F.H......
