And thy curtain of green just bursting away
When bashful morn lets in the day
And the night-drop glistens in thy gentle eye
As if weeping that the stars should leave the sky.
'Tis then that I love thee, thou pure sweet gem
Unconcious of beauty most beautiful then

Springs first blossom April 4th 1848

The first flower of spring
Lovely messenger, thou [does?] bring
Joyous tales with thee;
Tales of the sunshine and the budding tree.
The first of all thy bright race
Thou hast shown thy lovely face
And sprung from the cold dark ground
To beautify this mossy mound
The leafless trees are around thee now
Seem lifting to heaven each naked bough
And birds among their branches sing
To welcome the return of spring
Thy kindred all wrapped in Nature's sleep
Around this bed thy vigil keep
Till perchance the genial ray
Shall bring the warm and sunny May
And then in beauty they all shall arise
And look with trusting eye to the deep blue skies
And peeping out from their woodland bowers
The dewy laughing many bright flowers
But I'll love them not though gay and bright
So well as this thou child of light
For thines an "angels visit" floweret fair
