Friendships faded Flowers.

Sweet fragile flower, though faded thou art
And the pride of thy beauty is gone
Still thou art [dearer] far dearer to my heart
Than all the pride of the garden and lawn,
Let others prize the rose when blushing & bright
With the kiss of the zephyr or the sweet early light.
When the night draws is lingering in its flowering cup
Ere the sun in his wrath has drinked it up
Tho' the roses may be beauteous and lovely to see
It hath no charms, my bud, compared with thee
And the history of the past is written on you
And thou sweet Dahlia, once the pride
Of southern climes, where [fairy] streamlets bide
Whose Nature seems intent to pleasre, and shine
And scatters blossoms bright and fair as thine.
Where mineral wealth he's hid in the earth
And the hours adance along in gayety and mirth
And bright sparkling diamonds hidden lie
In the bed of the stream that ripples by,
Yet these have no power those feelings to impart
As when gazing on thee, comes warm to the heart.
A "talisman of hope and memory "thou art to me
And a magic power seems centred in thee
It calls up the past withits hopes and its fears
And the joys and the passions of other years.
So young so fair so genelte good and kind
And her loved form in fancy I see by me now
With the long graceful ringlets encircling her brow
And the same sweet smile seems resting there
