Dear Eva,

Well I started to write you a
letter three days ago but I didn't get
it finished before we left for a three
day problem out in the field. I decided I
might as well start all over again as
I have some news to add. We had about
the roughest problem the last three days that
we have had yet, about half the time I couldn't
see where I was going because my eyes were
filled with dust. I don't think it humanly
possible to get any dirtier than I was today
when we finished the problem. We had mail
call after we got in this afternoon and I
finally received the fruit cake you sent; it
couldn't have arrived at a better time as I
was about starved after living three days off
of K rations.

About five days ago I received a
letter from Faison, Henry and you the
same day. I received a letter from Velma
yesterday. When we got in from the problem
today there was sixteen bags of packages for
our company. It looked like X mas. The guys
got everything imaginable from powder to lollipops.
This isn't going to be such a long letter
