Dear Eva,
Well I started to write you a letter three days ago but I didn't get it finished before we left for a three day problem out in the field. I decided I might as well start all over again as I have some news to add. We had about the roughest problem the last three days that we have had yet, about half the time I couldn't see where I was going because my eyes were filled with dust. I don't think it humanly possible to get any dirtier than I was today when we finished the problem. We had mail call after we got in this afternoon and I finally received the fruit cake you sent; it couldn't have arrived at a better time as I was about starved after living three days off of K rations.
About five days ago I received a letter from Faison, Henry and you the same day. I received a letter from Velma yesterday. When we got in from the problem today there was sixteen bags of packages for our company. It looked like X mas. The guys got everything imaginable from powder to lollipops. This isn't going to be such a long letter Eva because I am pretty tired and kinda

sore. We slept in foxholes the last two nights and either I am beginning to feel my age or I can't take it anymore. I would lie in the foxhole until I got warm and I got warm my side would ache then I would have to turn on my other side, which would cause me to get cold again. This cot of mine is going to feel like a beautyrest mattress tonight.
I finally got a letter to Father MacMillan mailed. It isn't that I have too busy but normally I am tired so I put it off until the next night when I have something to do. You should have received my allotment by the time you get this letter, let me know so I can put in a squack if you haven't. I have some money on the books as I haven't had to draw any due to my luck at poker. Well Eva I guess this will be all for now as I want to turn in, say "hello" to everyone for me
