Dear Miss Eliza,

It is feelings
of deep regret that
I heard to-day of
your Dear Mother's death
and tender my heartfelt
sympathy. had I known
of it would certainly
have gone up yesterday.
I did not know she
was sick only through
the Enterprise. still
did not think of the
end being so near.
I have often thought
