Dear Mr. Lewald:

Thank you for your letter of February 1st concerning
Atwood White, inmate of Charlestown State Prison. On January 9th
this young man was interviewed by me and he requested that I secure
counsel for him. I have now sent him a copy of your letter. I
very much regret that it would be impossible for you to represent
him and that there would be some delay.

I wish it were possible for your Assistant Counselors
to go over and interview this young man. Of course I am not able to
judge if his ease has merit but I believe him to be one of the
forgotten unfortunates for whom one of our citizens should feel
responsible.
