Mr. Joseph E. Ragen, Superintendent
Illinois State Penitentiary
Jolie, Illinois.

Dear Mr. Ragen:

I am handing to Mrs. Lewis S. Thompson
of Red Bank, New Jersey, a letter of introduction to you.
Mrs. Thompson is a member of our State Board of Control of
Institutions and Agencies here in New Jersey and plans to be
in Chicago within a short time.

Mrs. Thompson desires to visit a
prisoner named Russell Williams, who is in Joliet. Would
you be good enough to extend this courtesy to Mrs. Thompson
in case she finds it possible to visit this young man. Mrs.
Thompson asks, however, that the young man be not informed
of her contemplated visit as it is possible that her time
will be so taken up in Chicago that she will not have oppor-
tunity to carry out her plans.

Thank you for your consideration
and with every good wish, I am,

M. V. Waters
