defenseless position. I must be more careful. I have the
advantage over you if Miss Kelley types my letters. She corrects
my mistakes. At least I believe she does. As to paragraphing,
there is controversy about that. The general rule is, of
course, as you say, one topic, one paragraph. Still many people
disregard this rule as they do so many others in life.

They must be prepared to take consequences.
I believe my own practise is to make too many paragraphs, hoping
the reader will pay attention when the items are set off by
themselves. I shall watch my step.

However, I caught you napping: it seems a shame
to mention it, for you were paying me a compliment. I appreciate
the compliment. You were saying I had athletic and out-door interests.
You used the word "traits", but you spelled it trates.

Trait is a good word. It means a feature or
character, hence something we were born with, I suppose. It comes
from an old Latin word meaning to draw a line in something hard, like
an engraving. I believe you are interested in words. I am. It is
a good study. The proper use of words reveals character, I think.
Some people are more honest, careful and accurate than others.

Well, as to the out-of-doors, I hope you want to
keep your greenhouse job. It keep you in the open air. It is a
fine occupation. There may be reasons for your wishing to give it
up of which I am ignorant. But, I should be glad and proud to see
that new snapdragon.

At present my out-of-dorrs is limited to
walking over our farm. I have been very busy with the legislature.

Vertainly when I come to Chicago I'll see
Mrs. Hanna.

I have mailed two pictures of Sarah this week.
I shall write again this month.
