Being confin'd to my Chamber can but just acknowledge the {Receipt} of your {favors} of 29th Ultimo & 10th {Instant} the former inclosing an open letter to Charles Ward Apthorp {Esquire} which I perus'd as requested seald & forward to {himself} your power, a state of your {balance} with Charles Ward Apthorp {Esquire} 8 {January} 1766, {John} Howard's first Bill for £30 Sterling in {favour} {Captain} Henry Monat & Michael Franklins 1st Bill for £17 .10/- { 17 pounds, ten shillings}, Sterling in {favour} {Thomas} Wood with 2{pence} of same setts inclos'd in yours of 10th {Instant} am heartily glad you have so near the {amount} of your Debt to {Messieurs} Trecothick & Thomellson in the Hands of Mr Apthorp it will not be quite necessary that you have it discounted as soon as possible. I think you shoud have hinted to Mr. Apthorp in your Letter to him {Messieurs} T & T having been so posessing yo ull not do your self Justice to let it lye as it does I have not yet determin'd whether to keep the Bills or send them to Mr. Apthorp or {Messieurs} T & T. I hope Major Gorham will prevent your going to Extremities with him but should he not pay you & arrives here expect you'l furnish the necessary papers to Compell him which I shall do to effect when in my power. I paid Mr. Marston what Mr. Apthorp wrote me was due from you to him but he afterwards found he had mention'd much short of the Sum am sorry you cant assist Mr Kelly the reasons you alledge I think sufficient for not doing it as you have done nothing to forfiet Mr Apthorps favour doubt not his employing you again in preference to anyother should it ever be in his power I am.
