Mr. Richard Gates Boston June 23d, 1766~
I duly rec[eived] your fav[our] of 10th Curr[entt] directing me
to procure a Market for 8 or 10 Chests Bohea Tea to be discovered
at New York at 6/4 that Currency which is what I cannot effect being
near 2d [per]tt more than it has been sold for lately & believe the least
4d. more then it will now fetch besides its being subject to a Duty
of 4d. LM[y] in every Mounds of Tea as sold here if under these
Disadvantages you think it will answer to send them you
maybe assur'd of my best Endeavours in the disposal there
I give you Joy on your safe return to America & am

I rec[eived] your favor of 16th Curr[entt] with Copy of
10th to which wrote you xxxxxx in answer that Mr. Hanson had
accepted your drafts. The Sales of his Sugars not then being finished
it was supposed I might have a Ball[ance], sufficient in my hands
