HOTEL Lincoln ON NATIONAL (U.S. 40) HIGHWAY INDIANAPOLIS
Wed. 11:30 a.m.
Dearest Mom & Pop & Sis:
While I'm waiting for a phone call to see if some of the wives of some of the officers of some of J.D.'s friends are still having lunch together this noon, I'll started a note to you.
C. Merwin & Mrs. L. blew in from Columbus yesterday noon & will be here until they can get a reservation on the super snooper for L.A. -- whether that will be Thurs. or Sun.?? J.D. hopes it will be tomorrow (& I do to [too] because it keeps him worried) for we can only [[inserted above]: all]] have dinner together (which is nice), but C.M. wants to talk long & late & it is impossible for J.D. to do so. He came up to the room rite [right] after dinner last nite [night] (about 8:00) to study & I stayed down & "yabbed" with

the folks. Even tho [though] I can't visit with J.D. while he is studying at least we are together in the room & if he wants to read to me or have me ask him army fin. questions I can do so -- but with his family around I can't even do that for fear of offending them. Oh, well, it will all work out somehow.
It has been raining all [[struck text]: uor]] morning - not hard, not cold, but enuff [enough] to keep the sidewalks wet & umbrellas up. It is surprising how few umbrellas (sp?) you see. Guess people feel toward these rains as we do in Calif [California] - just heavy fogs & that is about correct.
Have had fun shopping in the stores -- mostly looking, but wish I had the money to really shop, for things are very reasonable & no sales tax as in Calif. [California] If its $1.00 it is! Not $1.03 & on the big amts [amounts] think of the saving. Course [Of course] there is the gov't [government] luxury tax on "luxuries" etc. Bo't [Bought] each of you a small gift so's you won't cry when I return & didn't bring you "nuthin'"!
Hope to send my "trunk" back with the folks & use J.D.'s cases on the way home. He has decided to get army cases, etc, that will

stand being thrown around, & it will work out better for me having smaller (tho [though] just as heavy) cases for my 8 train changes home. After I leave Helen's keep your fingers crossed [[struck text]: as]] for when I reach O.K. city [Oklahoma City] have 7 min. for train change!! Boy oh boy, that's too close & if my train is late, I'll be stuck for a later train & will be almost another day later getting home. Got the jitters all ready [already] from worrying about all my changes to & from Helen's so shall probably have to go to a "rest home" to re-koop-er-ate [recuperate] when I finally arrive.
Had almost decided to remain at least 10 days longer but J. D. thinks it better (maybe) to go back now & prepare to join him for a full month or too [two] later when we can have

things more our own way & he won't be under such a strain.
Going to lunch, so ta ta. Deah [Dear] me -- us officers wives!! & I'm scared green!!
8:30 - P.M.
Nite [Night] s'olks: I'm plumb tuckered out. After lunch with the wives (who are awfully nice) shopped until 2:30 -- back to hotel -- have had dinner with C.M. & Mrs. L. -- J.D.'s hard at work. (Exam tomorrow) & now I'm going to bed fast. Rain has all [bored?] away.
Much love from both your Kids XXXX
P.S. Hope everything O.K. Dogs, too!
