Resolutions of respect on the death of Capt. J. T. Clements.

Capt. J. T. Clements was born in the state of New York in 1834. He came to
Texas in the early days and when the war broke out between the states
he joined the Texas Regiment and fought nobly through that historic
struggle for the land of his adoption.

He came to Fort Worth in the year 1887 and from that
time until today he was a trusted and valuable man in service of the
Texas and Pacific Railway Co. at Fort Worth.

In 1889 he was elected alderman of the 6th, ward, and represented
that ward in the city council in 1890- 1891- and 1892. He was reelected
in 1894 and served continuously for four years. During his term of
office the Fort Worth Water Plant was installed and Capt. Clements was
Chairman of the Water Committee of the Council.

And now we the City Council of the City of Fort Worth having learned
of the sudden death of Capt. Clements at his home this morning do adopt
the following resolutions in his memory in called session for that
purpose.

I st. That as alderman of the sixth ward he served the city for
a period of about xxxx eight years during the xxxx great financial
crisis and struggle of Fort Worth for existence and devoted himself to
the work of tiding our city over during that critical period.

2 nd. That the city loosed a good friend in his death, the
community a good citizen and to his family we tender our most
sincere sympathy.

3 rd, Resolved furthut that these resolutions be spread upon the
minutes of the city council, and a copy thereof over the signature and
seal of the Mayor and City Secretary be furnished the family of the de-
ceased.
