23 Thur
Quite a nice day. Had 2½ hr English
literature exam in morning and
1½ hour French exam in afternoon. Had to
make a long detour on our journey home because of
crashed lancaster. Hump came for tea and we
went for a walk with him. Mummy & Daddy
went to a land Army Dinner.

24 Fri-New Moon, 11.36 a.m.
Quite a nice day. Had a 2 hr
practical needlework exam. It was
terrible and I had a headache all the time.
Hockey matches were played in the
afternoon. Did my part of the Windyridge
Weekly and started writing to George in evening
Daddy cut my hair & M. washed it.

Lady Day (Quarter Day)
s.r. 5.52, s.s. 6.22
Lovely day. Decided to Spring clean my
bedroom. Did it nearly all on my own
and distempered the walls. Finished at
about 6 o'clock. Had a bath and then finished
my letter to George.

Prune Roses commencing with the H.P. varieties.
Cut out weak and diseased wood entirely and shorten
the selected strong growths according to strength and
requirements. Sow hardy annuals thinly where they
are to flower.
Cold Districts.-Make the first sowing of Carrots on
a warm border.
