695 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Oct 2 1885 the appointment of special Policeman and defining their Powers and Duties and Fixing their Compensation which, after due consideration is adopted by the following vote: In favor of said Ordinance Calligan, Furth, Hall, Harrington Lake, McDonald, Keenen and Young. Against None. An Ordinance is submitted entitled "A special Ordinance appropirating money to pay audited bills" which, after dau consideration is adopted by the following vote:In favor of said Ordinance Calligan, Furth, Hall, Harrington, Keenen, Lake, McDonald and Young. Against None. Ordered that the council adjourns Attest W R Forrest clerk H L Yesler mayor Oct 16 1885 Be it remembered that on this 16th day of October A D 1885 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to law the following officers are present to wit: His Hon the Mayor Henry L Yesler and Councilmen , R H Calligan, J Furth, G W Hall, W A Harrington John Keenen, T W Lake, Chas McDonald, J J Post and G W Young. Whereupon the following proceedings were had to wit: Petitions and Communications Petition of J Bersch et al for opening Sixth Street between Mill and Terrace Streets. Referred to St Com. Petition of Powers and Meyers to dismiss suit of City against thereupon pament of all costs. Referred to Judiciary Comtee Petitionof C B Bagley for opening roadway in Mercers Second Eden Addition Referred to Street Committee. Petition of P Wickstrom et al for permission to establish a Steam Laundry under the Wisconsin House of Mill St, On motion the petition is granted

702 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Nov 6 1885 Commercial St and Third St Referred to Com on Streets Petition of Carmi Dibble et al to more definitely mark the Southern boundry of the City Limits. Granted and City Surveyor directed to more definitely mark said boundry Petitionof Ed Clark et al for removal of shed from foot of Main St at end of street railway and praying that the Street Railway Co be required to plank and repair their track in compliance with the terms of the ordinance. Granted and Street Commissioner ordered to require the said repairs and planking to be done. Remonstrance of J W VanBrocklin et al against the construction of elevated sidewalk on Mill St between 4th & 5th Sts. was read and on motion the Street Comittee requested to examine into and report uopn the matter of the Mill Street sidewalk at the next regular meeting. 703 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Nov 6 1885 No 4336 that all the cases of the City against Powers and Meyers be dismissed at the City's Cost. Adopted From Committeee on Public Buildings and Grounds submitting plans and Specification for a stable and recommend adoption of same. Report and plans adopted and Clerk directed to advertise for bids for constructing same Fro Street Committe recommending that the petition of E F Lange for removal of obstruction in Jefferson Street be not granted adopted From Same committee returning petition of W H Bow et al for a new bridge on Lincoln Street recommending that the same be not granted. Referred back to Committee From Same Committee reporting that petition of C B Bagley for opening road in Mercer's addition had been complied with. Approved From same Committee requesting that the Council as a body examine and report upon the petition of the Northwestern Cracker Co. for a Sidewalk on the West Side of Front Street From Committee on Fire and Water returning communicationof a F A Minick in regard to Salary of Engineer No 1 with the recommendation that the salary of Engineer of Engine No 2 be reduced to $75.00 per month. Adopted From same Committee reporting on repairs etc. made on Engine No 1 also on repairing Engine House No 3 at Lake Union and hanging bells in No 2 & 3 Report adopted ordered filed.
