overtook came up with 2 persons going to the army crossed the Navidad thence [through?] [postoaks?] some miles. Passed Foleys Plantation on the thence to the Lavacea at Mrs Hall= =ams where there is a store and grocery and blacksmith shop The Lavacea is about Equal to the Bernardo having no bottoms being pararie on the stream with post oaks bank near. Went 8 miles this evening to Mr Tandey's where we got corn for our horses with out charge Mr Tandey is from Washington County and a Brother in Law to Mr Heck The country except on a few small pararies of black land, is very poor Wednesday [May 27 1846?] This morning travelled 15 miles to a creek and [stopped?] and got our dinner I having killed a deer of which we took the hams. Finding fish in the creek we burned some needles and bent them for hooks and making some lines, we caught a fine lot of large trout and pearch broiled them for dinner they being very fine indeed.
