John Peak Esq Funeral Undertaker 146 Friend St

Dear Sir,

I recd from you within a week, a list of names porporting to be the names of the four members of the Fowle family interred somewhere in Mt Auburn, with age, and date of decease, as also two names of persons previously deposited in your tomb and removed to another lot, in which list according to the books at the City Registrar's there were four mistakes -- one of name and three of dates.

I confess I was never more astonished than to receive from an old undertaker of thirty years practice, and whose capacity to make correct returns in conformity with the laws cannot be called in question, this lame substitute for the orders properly filled and signed by the proprietor accompanied by the City permits. What makes the matter worse in this case is that Mr Apollonio had given you every one of the permits, none of which were sent us. --

I called at your place twice in person for the papers, and you promised to get them executed and sent to me. I wrote after waiting some time, and instead of the papers, I have recd nothing but the above named list. I must have those papers in full. I have always got along well with you, but you must not make me trouble again -- or I shall have to represent the case.

I send you a circular which was once sent & is still the law.

Yours Respy.

A.J. Coolidge

Finally -- it is a wonder your note reached me at all -- as you addressed it "C. J. Coolidge."
