Dear Sir,
A few days since your brother Francis desired me to ascertain the amt for which the Corporation would guarantee the perpetual repair of your family lot no 1341. and inform you of the result.
I wrote the Supt. asking him to report upon the condition of the lot in the usual manner, and instead of the report he has written me as follows:
"I have examined the "Humphrey Lot." It requires to be regraded and resodded especially the banks are very mossy. The pedestal which is attached to the figure, and^which is, with the statue, composed of one [piece?] of marble, is slightly cracked. The die of the monument is cracked in four or five different places and one of the cracks is a bad one, and probably the piece will come off in the course of twenty years." -
As the Corporation does not assume the care of any lot before being put in good order, the above suggestions are commended to your notice, which you will hardly be able to give attention to before spring opens.
Respectfully Your Obt Servt
A. J. Coolidge Sec.y

Dear Sir: --
In February of 1867 I wrote you requesting a report on the lot of the late Benj. Humphrey 1341 on Cedar Av. for perpetual repair. You examined said lot, and instead of sending me a report wrote: --
"I have examined the Humphrey lot. It requires to be regraded and resodded; especially its banks are very mossy. The pedestal which is attached to the figure which is with the same composed of one block of marble, is slightly cracked. The die of the monument is cracked in four or five different places and one of its cracks is a bad one, and probably the piece will come off in the course of twenty years".
I sent your letter to Mr Humphrey, who now says that the heirs have reached a point where they wish to make a contract for repair: but in consequence of the uncertain condition of the monument they propose to assume the perpetual care of that.
Will you please report this week stating the condition and facts, and add that the heirs wish in said contract expressly to
