$1000 appropriated for Lake on site of "Garden Pond", so called _

On motion of Mr Austin,

Voted that the Committee on Grounds be authorized to expend a sum not exceeding one thousand dollars towards making and stoning up a lake in the place now called "Garden Pond" on the map of Mount Auburn.

Laid on table motion for appropriation for steps from the Tower down the hill, northward.

The chairman of the Comee on Grounds submitted the following for adoption, which on motion of Mr Cheever, was laid on the table to the next meeting: _

"That, until otherwise ordered, the Committee on Grounds be authorized to expend one thousand dollars annually, in constructing a flight of stone steps from the northerly part of Mountain Avenue, near the Tower, down the hill towards Consecration Dell; _ the Committee to report annually." _

Represents designation for Lot 197

Upon the petition of Thomas G. Appleton, of Cambridge, eldest son, and surviving Executor of Nathan Appleton, deceased, late proprietor of lot numbered 197, he was designated to represent said lot. _

Lot 3126

Upon the petition of William Dorey, of Boston, guardian of the children of James H. Guppy, late proprietor of lot numbered 3126, deceased, supported also by the request of the widow, he was designated to represent said lot. _

Instruction of Comee _

Upon motion by Mr Read,

Voted that the Committee be instructed not to appeal from Mr Hillard's award. _

The President, for the Comee on Grounds, again introduced the subject of erecting a flight of steps down the Northerly side of the Tower Hill. _

Stone Steps from Mountain Ave to Consecration Dell _

Upon motion of Mr Curtis,

Voted that the Committee on Grounds be requested to submit, at the next meeting of the Board, a plan for erecting a flight of stone steps from Mountain Avenue down northwardly to Consecration Dell, accompanied with an estimate from some responsible person who will contract for the same at the estimated price _

New form of Blank Deeds ordered _

The Secretary stated that there is occasion for printing an additional number of blank deeds for record, and that experience had shown the need of greater definiteness in the descriptive part, _

Upon motion of Mr Curtis,

Voted that the subject be referred to the Committee on on Lots with power to prepare a new form of deed with such amendments as may be needed. _

Lot 1172 Rep. appointed _

Upon petition of the devisees under the will of John H. Pearson, late proprietor of lot numbered 1172, deceased, Charles L. Pearson, of Boston, the youngest son & sole trustee under said will was designated to represent said lot. _

Amendt _ for _ Price of Tomb Lots in Hill-sides

Mr Read moved the following be substituted as an amendment thereto.

"That lots for tombs on the hill-sides, in such places as the Committee on Lots shall approve, may be sold at fifty cents per square foot, on the purchasers binding themselves to erect no tomb or repository which shall not be made air tight, to the satisfaction of the Committee on Lots."

Adopted _

And the same was adopted. _

Land on South & West sides of Consecration Dell not to be sold _

The following was then moved by Mr Gould and was adopted. _

That the sloping grounds on the southern and western sides of Consecration Dell be withheld from sale, till further ordered by the Trustees.

Communicaton of Supt as to price for purpetl care of small lots - referred to Comee on Lots _

A communication was received from the Superintendent inquiring whether there ought not to be a provision for the perpetual care of small lots for a less sum than three hundred dollars, as now required by the by-laws.

Also whether the present price for depositing bodies in the Receiving Tomb is sufficient to meet cases where the deposit money is forfeited and the bodies have to be removed to some part of the grounds at the expense of the Corporation. _

As to price of Receiving Tomb deposit _ referred to Comee on. Rules & Regulations of intermt _

Voted to refer the inquiry as to the sum for perpetual care of small lots to the Committee on Lots; and that relation to the price for deposit in the Receiving Tomb to the Committee on Rules and Regulations of Interments. _ Adjourned _ Attest A.J. Coolidge,, Secretary
